Mars Volta’s 18-record vinyl box set wasn’t released until April 23, but it’s already sold out

Prog punk legends The Mars Volta have announced a massive 18-record vinyl box set that brings together much of their discography with some exciting surprises. The collection is scheduled for April 23 but is already sold out.

The box is called La Realidad De Los Sueños and it features new vinyl editions of every studio album the band has released in their career, starting with their debut EP Trembling to their last feature film, 2012 Noctourniquet; between the two, we can find classics like De-Loused In The Comatorium, Frances the dumb, Amputechture, and much more. The highlights of the bonuses include new elements of the De-Loused sessions as well as a complete photo book that brings together candid snapshots of the group during their time together; everything is housed in an exquisitely designed box. La Realidad De Los Sueños was released by the Clouds Hill label – which previously released another ambitious Omar Rodríguez-López set – and it is limited to 5,000 copies. Pre-orders started on Thursday March 4 and have since sold out at the Clouds Hill US store, although their UK subsidiary is still accepting orders, so hurry if you want one.

Mars Volta broke up in 2013 after more than a decade of creating stimulating and mind-blowing music of great ambition. After their breakup, core members Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala explored several musical avenues, including reuniting with their previous band At The Drive-In. In 2019, Bixler-Zavala hinted at the possibility of a reunion; although nothing came from the rumors, maybe the output of La Realidad De Los Sueños is a step towards new music. Time will tell us.
