Valentina Kozlova’s New York Conservatory of Dance returns to Symphony Space with Kozlova’s charming hour-long production of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite”, two performances on Saturday, December 18 at 3 pm and 6 pm. The star dancers are Katherine St. Jean and Mary Eisener, both award recipients at international ballet competitions, and guest Albert Davidov. Other dancers will come from the Kozlova Ballet School, where her teaching method combines the Bolshoi School with Balanchine training methods, and the cast includes several notable young dancers who have won medals in competitions of ballet around the world.

The production is ALL-DANCE and opens with a set of ravishing angels to start the festivities, taking audiences to the snow scene and then to the candy realm. All Act II entertainment will be performed for Clara, including the Waltz of Flowers, the Plum Fairy and Her Rider, Russian, Chinese, and Arabian dances, and more, all danced to beloved music by Tchaikovsky.

Kozlova, former principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet and the New York City Ballet, staged these dances based on the original by Marius Petipa and Valery Vainonen (formerly of the Kirov Ballet).

Valentina Kozlova was trained at the Bolshoi Ballet School, graduated from the Bolshoi Ballet Company and quickly rose to the rank of principal dancer. She was the youngest dancer to dance the role of Juliet and appeared in leading roles until 1979, when she defected while the Company was on tour in Los Angeles. The ballerina has invited companies from around the world, performed on Broadway in “On Your Toes” and joined the New York City Ballet as principal dancer, at the invitation of George Balanchine, remaining with that company until 1995. With Margo Sappington, Kozlova directed her own Ballet: The Daring Projects for several seasons, and also became a trainer and judge for ballet competitions around the world. Kozlova runs her own school located in beautiful studios in Norwalk, Ct. As well as the Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition, presented twice in Boston and several times in New York. The next VKIBC is scheduled for June 20-24, 2022 at Symphony Space.
