First Look: Howl at the Moon

Last night, howl at the moon opened in downtown Milwaukee under a waning gibbous moon. The Chicago-based chain’s nightclub and concert venue has taken over the former Pub Club space, 1103 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.

The new space is fresh, clean and simple, with a huge square bar right in the center and a stage and dance floor towards the back.

Howl at the Moon is known for its dueling pianos and big buckets of fruity booze and both were flowing free last night on the big opening night.

Check it out:

The drinks come in three bucket sizes, we’ll call them Bigger, Bigger, and Ridiculously Big, and have names like Sex on the Moon, Adios Mofo, Fruit Rollup, Pink Paradise, Howlin’ Punch, and a classic Hurricane.

Regular size cocktails, beer, wine and a variety of unique shots like a “Basic B**** Bomb” or “Gummy Bear” are also available.

Live music performances take place nightly, with two “dueling” pianists and a rotating mix of other musicians churning out dance hits and sing-alongs from the 70s to the present. Think “Bennie and The Jets” meets “Don’t Stop Believing” meets “Gin and Juice” with everything customers ask for.

Howl at the Moon Milwaukee is the chain’s 18th location. It is open to the public Thursday to Saturday evenings from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. and other evenings for birthdays, holidays, bachelor/bachelorette parties, corporate and private parties.
