Big Scary Monsters opens Social Club at Cowley Road in Oxford with beer and bands

MUSIC fans from an independent Oxford label combined their passion for bands and beer by opening a store selling both.

Big Scary Monsters, which have been releasing records from alternative bands for 20 years, have put the finishing touches on their new store in Cowley Road, which they hope to open when the lockdown ends next week.

The Big Scary Monsters Social Club is both a bar and a music store, and will give fans a chance to pick up the releases of some of the label’s artists. Its location is perfect for music lovers, close to the Truck Store record store, The Music Box instrument store and the city’s main concert halls, the O2 Academy and The Bullingdon, as well as the popular bar. , The Library.

The driving force behind this idea is Kev Douch, who, along with Jack Clothier, also helped found the Alcopop label in Oxford.

Mr Douch said: “The Social Club is both a record store and a craft beer bottle store and we decided to create it as a way to achieve two separate dreams: to run an independent record store and a bar.

He said the store was stocked with 400 LPs and 150 beers.
